Providing The Best
Cobots for Fabrication
RTT has been in business since 2007. We have the best technology for mobile operations on steel and other ferrous materials.
Our commercial manufacturing platforms are operating throughout the United States.
Our History
RTT is a robotics startup from one of the top tech universities in Tennessee. In 2015, RTT teamed up with Smokey Robotics (another robotics startup from the University of Tennessee) to develop a portable, mobile welding cobot using RTT’s welding technology, weld motion planning, and Smokey Robotics’ high-quality cobot arm. RTT developed and implemented these welding cobot systems for the most demanding weld applications (Navy Shipbuilding, Energy power sector, civil structures) with systems in continuous weld use since 2016.
RTT partnered with EWI (the Edison Welding Institute) to ensure the demands of the most strict weld procedures were met with the orange welding cobots. In 2018, RTT spun off a commercial version of these systems and demonstrated it at Fabtech 2018. Picture this: a Fabtech show with only one welding cobot displayed – the orange welding cobot now known as SwitchWeld! Arc Specialties had a weld interface kit that could attach to a UR arm, but the RTT machine was the only welding cobot operating on the Fabtech floor. And RTT’s vision of that first welding cobot was revolutionary. The offer was “pendant-free” weld teaching. The welder could do the majority of the weld teaching right at the torch, with smooth, precise fine-tune control of the torch tip with a joystick, and then an easy-to-read interface to review weld programs as needed.
RTT holds many patents in cobot welding (frankly, the majority of US cobot welding patents), and this technology is found in every SwitchWeld arm. Because of this tight collaboration between weld tool developers and cobot manufacturers, SwitchWeld systems have the fastest control loop feedbacks, offering the best weld motion control for today and future AI-powered welding machines.
